Understanding Natural & Lab-grown Diamonds

Diamonds, known for their unmatched brilliance and hardness, symbolize love, luxury, and endurance; now come in 2 types- Natural & Lab-grown.

A. Natural Diamonds develop deep within the Earth over billions of years and are mined. Each natural diamond is uniquely shaped by nature.

B. Lab-grown Diamonds are created in controlled environments using advanced technology. They have the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds but are more sustainable and less expensive.

Both Natural and Lab-grown diamonds are graded using the 4Cs—Cut, Clarity, Colour, and Carat—and come in various shapes,

1. Cut is the most crucial factor influencing a diamond's sparkle. It refers to how well the diamond has been shaped and faceted to reflect light. Precision, symmetry & polish determine the sole three factors that determine the brilliant cut of a diamond.

A well-cut diamond maximizes brilliance, while a poorly cut one may appear dull.

2. Clarity
measures the presence of internal inclusions or external blemishes. While most diamonds have natural imperfections, those with fewer inclusions are considered more valuable.
Here's a diamond clarity chart you can refer-

Clarity Category

Description

FL (Flawless)

No imperfections

IF (Internally Flawless)

No internal inclusions

VVS1-VVS2 (Very Very Slightly Included)

Difficult to detect tiny inclusions

Small inclusions

SI1-SI2 (Slightly Included)

Noticeable inclusions

I1-12-13 (Very Included)

Visible inclusions

3. Colour ranges from colourless (most valuable) to light yellow or brown. The less colour a diamond has, the more its radiance is enhanced.

4. Carat refers to the weight of a diamond. Larger diamonds are rarer and more expensive, but carat weight should be considered alongside cut quality, as a well-cut smaller diamond can appear more brilliant than a poorly cut larger one.

5. Each shape of diamond brings in a unique brilliance and sophistication. Here are some popular shapes that can diversify your precious collection.
